The Poole family invited the Cub section from 3rd Wexford Gorey Scout Group to visit their farm. It was a relaxed tour of the farm showing us the flora and fauna as we went, explaining eco farming techniques in an easily understood manner, tailored to the age group (9 - 12 yr olds). We learned about bats, swifts, sand martins and other birds. Cheryl expertly and enthusiastically taught us about the different birds while we stood in the midst of a group of calves, assisted by her daughter Isabelle. It was a wonderful opportunity for the kids to experience rural farm life, while learning about the importance of biodiversity and how modern farming can coexist with nature in today's ever changing world. Their regard for the welfare of the animals, both wild and domestic, was evident and I would highly recommend a visit. Thank you to the Poole family for an educational and enjoyable experience. - Paul Manning Cub leader

Cheryl visited our school and delivered an inspiring workshop with our Green Schools team. Her passion for biodiversity and conservation really motivated students to take action in improving our school and local environment. She made the experience meaningful and relevant to their everyday lives, while encouraging them to think critically and creatively about the importance of protecting nature.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Cheryl and Alan on their family farm with a group of Secondary School students, and it was a truly unforgettable experience. Students were amazed to see first-hand the incredible work and dedication behind the many projects taking place on their busy farm. One highlight was witnessing the Sand Martin wall alive with activity, as well as learning about the inspiring conservation efforts for Swifts, Owls, and Bats. As we walked through the farm, students identified native species thriving in the newly planted hedgerows, and they even got hands-on in the River Bann, testing the health and biodiversity of our local waters. It was a day full of learning and an experience that left both students and teachers inspired. A huge thank you to Cheryl, Alan, and their family for such a memorable visit!

Poole Bio School have become a highly valued educational partner to Gorey Central School. Alan and Cheryl consistently provide classroom visits, workshops and school tours that are engaging, structured, and curriculum linked across the areas of biodiversity, STEM, Green Schools and farm safety.

Their sessions are hands on, practical and inspiring. Pupils explore pollinators, local plant and animal life, sustainability practices, and environmental care in a way that is fun, meaningful, and easy to understand. The classroom workshops are incredibly well pitched, balancing clear scientific explanation with active participation and plenty of opportunities for questioning and discovery.

Our school tour experiences with Poole Bio School have been a particular highlight. Pupils gain real life insight into how our natural environment functions, the importance of animal care, and the role that farming and conservation play in our community. The tours are well-organised, safe and accessible, with a strong focus on participation, respect for nature, and responsible environmental stewardship.

Alan and Cheryl bring deep expertise, genuine passion and a warm rapport with children. Their work directly supports our Green Schools initiatives and the whole school focus on sustainability, STEM learning and outdoor education. We look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come.

Poole Bio School, led by Cheryl and Alan Poole, have been an exceptional support to Gorey Central School, particularly throughout our Summer Provision Programme. Their approach is deeply inclusive and child centred, ensuring that every pupil, regardless of need or ability, is enabled to participate fully and meaningfully in all activities.

During their visits, pupils were guided through hands on learning in biodiversity, pollination, land stewardship and the protection of local flora and fauna. Alan and Cheryl delivered engaging lessons on farm safety, nature conservation and the interconnectedness of local habitats. Their outdoor workshops gave children the opportunity to explore natural habitats, discuss pollinator friendly flowers, participate in caring for small animals, and understand the responsibility we share in protecting the environment.

A highlight of the programme was the supported visit to the Poole Bio School farm, where pupils engaged in practical learning experiences that built confidence, curiosity and joy, from biodiversity friendly garden exploration to learning how bees support our food systems. Their knowledgeable, patient and supportive manner ensured that pupils with additional needs were fully included at every stage.

We are deeply grateful for the partnership with Poole Bio School and for their commitment to education, environmental awareness and inclusion. Their contribution has enriched the learning experiences of our pupils and helped to strengthen our Green Schools and biodiversity work throughout the year.
